A community forest is more than a collection of trees.
An underused piece of land can become something much more valuable when a community has the opportunity to shape its future.
Community Forest is transforming underused land into a growing woodland designed to support biodiversity while creating a place for people to learn, gather, and spend time outdoors.
TerraKind is working with local residents to plan and restore the site through native planting, habitat creation, and ongoing community care.
A place designed to grow with the community
The project brings environmental restoration and community participation together from the beginning.
Residents can take part in planting, maintenance, and learning activities while helping shape how the site develops.
The aim is to create a forest that belongs to the landscape and the people who live around it.
Native trees and vegetation will gradually create new habitat while the site becomes a place where people can experience nature closer to home.
Looking beyond the first planting day
A community forest takes years to mature.
The early stages of the project are therefore focused on establishing healthy young trees, caring for new planting areas, and creating the conditions for the woodland to develop.
As the forest grows, future activities can expand around learning, community participation, habitat care, and connection to the natural environment.
The work begins with restoring the land, but the long-term ambition is to create a shared place that continues to grow alongside the community.
