Small spaces can make a meaningful difference.
Not every environmental project starts in a forest or beside a river. Sometimes meaningful change begins with an overlooked corner of a neighbourhood.
Green Neighbourhoods works with local residents to transform underused spaces into community gardens, native planting areas, and pollinator-friendly habitats.
TerraKind supports communities with practical restoration, planting, and planning while residents help shape how each space is used and cared for.
Making nature part of everyday life
The project focuses on places that people already pass through and use. Bringing more vegetation and habitat into these everyday spaces can create new opportunities for people to connect with nature closer to home.
Each neighbourhood has different needs, so the work is adapted to the character of each location. Some spaces may become community gardens, while others can provide habitat for pollinators and other small wildlife.
The aim is not to create identical spaces. It is to help communities make better use of the places they already have.
Built with the community
Local involvement is part of the project from the beginning.
Residents can contribute to planting, maintenance, and decisions about how each space should develop. This helps create places that feel connected to the people who use them rather than simply being projects delivered from outside.
As the gardens and habitats grow, they can become shared spaces for learning, gathering, and spending time outdoors.
Green Neighbourhoods shows how small areas of land can become part of a wider environmental network when communities have the opportunity to shape and care for them.
